Training Programme to Address Staffing and Unemployment

The Ajuntament de Badalona and TUSGSAL have signed a collaboration agreement to launch a training initiative for 30 individuals aiming to become professional bus drivers. The scheme, announced on Thursday 24 September 2026, is designed to meet staffing demands at TUSGSAL, the city’s municipal urban transport company, while improving job opportunities in the public transport sector. Under the agreement, the Municipal Service for the Promotion of Employment (IMPO) will identify and refer eligible candidates to TUSGSAL. The company will then manage selection, training, and hiring. Participants will complete around 300 hours of training to obtain a Class D driving licence and the Certificate of Professional Aptitude (CAP), required to drive buses commercially.

Guaranteed Hiring for Qualified Graduates

TUSGSAL has committed to hiring at least 40% of those who successfully complete the qualification. This means a minimum of 12 new drivers will join the workforce if all participants pass. The courses are scheduled to begin in November 2026, with training likely extending into early 2027. The initiative operates under the 'Forma i Insereix' (Train and Insert) programme funded by the Public Employment Service of Catalonia (SOC), which provided the necessary financing for two training groups of 15 people each.

With this initiative, we make it possible for the selected individuals, some of whom are unemployed, to improve their training, enter quality employment, and develop their professional careers in a highly solvent and credible company in the city.

Eligibility and Application Process

The programme targets both unemployed jobseekers and employed individuals seeking better work, subject to specific criteria:

  • Be over 24 years old
  • Hold a valid Category B driving licence with points remaining
  • Be registered with the Public Employment Service of Catalonia (SOC)

At least 70% of participants must be unemployed (classified as DONO). Of the 30 places, a minimum of 21 are reserved for unemployed individuals and up to 9 for employed job improvers. IMPO will prioritise residents of Badalona during recruitment.
