A family who rented a flat at Sensia Residences on Passeig Mare Nostrum in Badalona says it was locked out on 14 July with its possessions still inside the home. The account, reported by Metrópoli Abierta on Saturday, raises concerns for tenants in the La Mora seafront development about maintenance complaints, communication with the property manager and the handling of possessions during an eviction.

Joanna, who asked to be identified by her first name, told Metrópoli Abierta that her household paid almost €3,000 a month in rent and a deposit of about €7,000. She said the family returned home with their children to find a metal anti-squatting door fitted to the flat.

“We feel they have robbed us, but with the law on their side,” Joanna told Metrópoli Abierta.

She said clothing, furniture, jewellery, computers, mobile phones and around €50,000 in cash were left in the property. Joanna said some of the cash related to payments and collections from her sales clients.

Family disputes the eviction account

Metrópoli Abierta reported that a court record drawn up at 13:00 on 14 July stated that a commission from Badalona’s Court of First Instance entered the flat with a locksmith after repeated calls at the door went unanswered. The record described the home as containing personal belongings indicating that it was lived in.

Joanna disputed that account, telling the outlet that the family had received neither prior notice nor a court summons at the address. The family said it was unable to recover the possessions left inside after the lockout.

Photographs seen by Metrópoli Abierta showed belongings in street rubbish containers several days later, according to its report.

Tenants report leaks and closed repair cases

Joanna said the family had withheld one month’s rent after complaints about the flat went unanswered, then resumed payments after being promised solutions. She described repeated problems including:

  • leaks, damp and water entering the flat;
  • damaged parquet flooring and ceilings affected by rain; and
  • appliances that did not work.

Other residents in the development told Metrópoli Abierta that water damage and leaks had gone unrepaired for more than 13 months. They also said repair requests made through the management app had been marked as resolved without a technician attending.

The family and other tenants are considering collective legal action against the property, according to Metrópoli Abierta. The outlet said Promociones Lladero S.A.U. and the High Court of Justice of Catalonia had not responded to its requests for comment by publication time.
