Residents and visitors hoping to see Cinta Vidal's 33-square-metre mural of the La Mercè 2026 image at Barcelona's Biblioteca Francesc Candel will not be able to enter the building from 1 to 31 August. The closure also removes access to the library's usual services for the month.

The library, in the La Marina de Port area of Sants-Montjuïc, has also warned that opening and normal services cannot be guaranteed because of an indefinite library strike called from 26 May. People planning a visit should check the library's official news page before travelling.

33-square-metre work in the interior terrace

Biblioteques de Barcelona, the city library network, announced on 22 July that Vidal, who created the La Mercè 2026 image, had also painted it as a 33-square-metre mural in the Biblioteca Francesc Candel's interior terrace.

According to the library's published notices, its summer arrangements run from 24 June to 24 September. The same notice confirms that the building will be closed for the whole of August.

  • Library: Biblioteca Francesc Candel, Carrer de l'Amnistia Internacional, 10, Sants-Montjuïc.
  • Closure: Saturday 1 August to Monday 31 August.
  • Mural: Cinta Vidal's 33-square-metre version of the La Mercè 2026 image, in the interior terrace.

The library's strike notice, published on 22 May, states that from 26 May it could not guarantee either opening or its customary services. The official library page is the channel to check for any updated opening information.
