Aliança Catalana is seeking to add Junts councillors and local representatives to its municipal lists before the 2027 elections, according to reports by ARA and El Mundo. The strategy has already produced prospective Aliança Catalana candidates in Amposta and Cambrils.

For residents in those two municipalities, the change means candidates who previously held, or stood for, Junts positions are set to contest the next local vote under Aliança Catalana's banner. The party is targeting locally known figures as it builds lists in cities and smaller towns, ARA reported on 30 March.

Amposta and Cambrils figures move towards Aliança lists

  • Amposta: Èric Esteban, previously Junts' number two in the last municipal election, resigned in February and is now a non-attached councillor. ARA reported that he was presented as Aliança Catalana's mayoral candidate.
  • Cambrils: Enric Daza, Junts' municipal leader and spokesperson on the town council, is due to become Aliança Catalana's mayoral candidate for the 2027 local elections, El Mundo reported on 15 July.

Esteban left Junts after learning that he would not lead its list, having lost the party's primary contest a year earlier, according to ARA.

“The pro-independence process has already been tried and we know what results it has produced. Clearly, Catalonia needs something different, and Manresa deserves a different project to produce different results.”

Sílvia Orriols made those comments at the presentation of Esteban's candidacy in Amposta, while explaining her refusal to join a joint candidacy with Junts in Manresa, ARA reported.

Local recruitment is central to the party's election plan

ARA reported that Aliança Catalana wants recruits to lead or join its lists and to help find further candidates in their municipalities. The party has approached Junts mayors and councillors, although some contacts have not been made public.

El Mundo reported that the recruitment effort also extends to local figures from ERC and the PSC. Its report said Aliança Catalana presents the recruits as people joining an openly pro-independence project focused on the defence of Catalan identity.

The two reported candidacies place Amposta and Cambrils among the municipalities where Aliança Catalana is already assembling named options for the 2027 election.
