The V29 bus in Barcelona is running with an extended summer service on Saturdays and public holidays, with extra capacity and four added stops on the section between Diagonal Mar and Plaça Virrei Amat. The measure is aimed at residents and visitors travelling to and from the seafront, where demand rises during the summer months.

According to the Ajuntament de Barcelona's Sant Martí district notice and route information published by TMB, Barcelona's public transport operator, the reinforced service runs from 10:30 to 21:00. Up to four extra articulated buses are being added on the V29, which normally uses standard vehicles on part of the route.

Two V29 destinations on beach travel days

During the reinforcement period, the V29 has two destinations. Some buses run the usual full route to Roquetes, while others terminate earlier at Plaça Virrei Amat, next to Virrei Amat station on Metro line L5.

That means passengers boarding the V29 on summer Saturdays and public holidays need to check the front destination display before getting on, because not every bus will continue to Roquetes. TMB has also said there will be informers and signage at stops during the first days of the change.

"Aquesta línia tindrà dues destinacions: una fins a Virrei Amat i l'habitual fins a Roquetes."

The Ajuntament notice says the purpose is to increase capacity between Diagonal Mar and Plaça Virrei Amat, a section used by people heading to the beach area in Sant Martí.

What changes for passengers on the V29

The operational changes published by the city and TMB include:

  • summer reinforcement on Saturdays and public holidays
  • service hours from 10:30 to 21:00
  • up to four extra articulated buses on the V29
  • two destinations on the line: Virrei Amat and Roquetes

The city says the added buses are intended to reduce crowding on journeys to and from the beaches. The same municipal notice also confirms extra summer reinforcement on the D20, but the V29 change affects passengers travelling between Diagonal Mar and the northern part of the route in particular.

Passengers can check updated V29 route, timetable and stops on the official TMB line page.
