Universitat station on Barcelona Metro line 1 has been decorated in the colours of the inclusive flag for Pride Barcelona 2026, in an intervention by Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona, the city's main public transport operator. The decoration is already in place and is intended to coincide with the Pride Barcelona 2026 activities listed on the official festival programme.

For passengers using one of the network's busiest central interchanges, the change is visible on both L1 platforms, including the directions towards Hospital de Bellvitge and Fondo, as well as on platform benches and a large wall in the concourse. TMB said the action is designed both to support affective, sexual and gender diversity and to encourage people to use public transport for Pride events taking place during these days.

TMB said the intervention turns Universitat station into "a space for visibility and awareness", coinciding with the activities organised by Pride Barcelona.

What has changed at Universitat station

The decoration has been installed in several parts of the L1 station, which sits beneath Plaça Universitat in central Barcelona. According to TMB, themed vinyl coverings now display the rainbow colours across public areas used daily by commuters, residents, students and visitors.

TMB published photographs of the intervention on Monday 7 July, showing the completed installation across the station.

What it means for passengers during Pride

For people travelling to Pride Barcelona events, the station decoration is also a practical sign that TMB is promoting the metro as the main way to reach festival activities in the city centre. Universitat is a key stop for travellers moving through the centre and sits within walking distance of several event areas used during major city festivals.

TMB said the action forms part of its wider stated commitment to equal opportunities and non-discrimination. The operator described the initiative as support for the values of the LGBTQ+ community during Pride Barcelona 2026.

Passengers who want to plan journeys around the festival can check dates, venues and times on the official Pride Barcelona website, where the full programme is published.
