Sitges is taking significant steps to make its 2026 Festa Major more accessible and inclusive, with a series of logistical changes designed to accommodate people of all abilities. The Ajuntament de Sitges and the Municipal Commission of Sant Bartomeu i Santa Tecla are implementing pilot measures to ensure broader participation in the town's flagship festival.
Reserved Spaces and Sensory-Friendly Zones
For the first time, designated viewing areas will be available for wheelchair users during major processions, including the Entrada de Grallers and the civic parades. These spaces, accessible via prior registration on the Festa Major website, will allow up to three companions per person. Organisers will also consider individual preferences regarding exposure to fireworks when assigning spots.
The event will continue the "Tram en calma" initiative, a quieter procession route tailored for people with sensory hypersensitivity, autism spectrum conditions or anxiety. This adapted path runs alongside the main parade, offering a calmer experience with reduced noise and stimulation.
Innovative Inclusion Technologies
A new addition for 2026 is the use of vibrating backpacks during the Entrada de Grallers, developed in collaboration with Canal Blau TV and EnBucle. These vests allow deaf and hard-of-hearing attendees to experience the music through synchronized vibrations, enhancing their engagement with the performance.
We wanted to build the festival from the seams that hold it together, ensuring no one is left behind.
Sign language interpretation in Catalan Sign Language (LSC) will be expanded to more events, including performances at La Plaça and spoken dance shows. Meanwhile, the amusement fair will host sensory-friendly hours without flashing lights or loud music on 12, 13, 19 and 20 August, from 6pm to 8pm.
Centralised Cultural Hub at La Plaça
The Torreta-Baluard Vidal Quadras area will once again serve as a cultural epicentre under the name La Plaça, hosting free family-friendly concerts, debates and workshops. Events include a traditional tambourine dance featuring inclusive participation, a community dinner and the unveiling of a restored Patufet figure.
