R4 Service Restored, Other Lines Still Suspended

Fabra i Puig commuter station in Barcelona has resumed partial operations this morning, Thursday 8 October 2026, with trains on the R4 line once again stopping at the station. The reopening follows emergency repairs after a false ceiling collapsed on 22 September, injuring three people lightly. According to Renfe and Adif, the incident was caused by heavy rain, structural deterioration, and vibrations from ongoing infrastructure work at the station. Since then, the station had been closed for safety assessments and urgent refurbishment. Only the R4 line is currently operating through Fabra i Puig:

  • The R7 line remains fully suspended due to damage from recent extreme rainfall.
  • The R12 has not run on this section since 7 October due to flooding and landslides.
  • The R3 line is out of service between Fabra i Puig and Puigcerdà due to long-term track duplication works, with replacement buses provided.

Full Remodelling Plans Underway

Adif has confirmed that Fabra i Puig is one of two major Barcelona stations, along with El Clot, set for comprehensive redevelopment under the Plan Transforma Rodalies. The project, budgeted at over €2 million for the design phase alone, will focus on improving safety, accessibility, intermodality, and passenger comfort. Work will include structural assessments, renovation of access points, vestibules, service areas, and platform access, as well as redesigning the external bicycle parking area. Full accessibility upgrades such as elevators, tactile paving, and adjusted platform heights are also planned.

The resumption of R4 services marks a key step forward, but full normalisation depends on completing both immediate repairs and long-term modernisation.

Passengers are advised to check Adif's official page for Fabra i Puig and Renfe updates for real-time service changes, especially given continued weather-related disruptions across other lines.
