A GESOP survey for EL PERIÓDICO, conducted from 10 to 21 September and published on 24 September, puts the PSC, led by Barcelona mayor Jaume Collboni, on 20.2% of the vote in the 2027 municipal election. The projection gives the Socialists nine to 10 seats on Barcelona City Council, which will have 43 councillors.
For Barcelona voters, the poll indicates a fragmented council rather than an overall majority for any one party. The election is due to be held on Sunday 23 May 2027, according to EL PERIÓDICO’s reporting on the survey.
ERC projected second as opposition splits
The survey places Esquerra Republicana de Catalunya (ERC), the Catalan pro-independence party, second on 14% and six to seven councillors. It puts Collboni 6.2 percentage points ahead of ERC.
- Barcelona en Comú, the left-wing party formerly led by Ada Colau, is projected to win 12.2% and five to six councillors, compared with its current nine.
- Aliança Catalana is projected to enter the council for the first time with 11.5% and five to six councillors.
- The poll projects eight parties in the council, up from six, with Aliança Catalana and the CUP entering the chamber.
EL PERIÓDICO reported that the PSC’s projected result would be slightly above its 2023 vote share, although three points below the GESOP poll published in September 2025. Its reporting says respondents nevertheless gave the City Council’s management a failing assessment.
A district-by-district follow-up, published on 26 September, describes the survey as the start of an eight-month municipal election campaign. Residents can use that breakdown to compare the poll’s projected voting patterns across Barcelona’s districts before the May 2027 vote.
