The Correfoc, one of La Mercè’s main traditional-culture events, will return to Passeig de Gràcia on Saturday 26 September. Residents and visitors planning to attend should expect the fire-run procession to use the stretch between Carrer de Provença and Carrer del Consell de Cent, while the children’s Correfoc is due to begin at 18:00.
The event will start at a renovated “gate of hell” at the junction of Passeig de Gràcia and Carrer de Provença. Participating groups will then proceed along Passeig de Gràcia before the event concludes at Carrer del Consell de Cent.
Route and opening ceremony
The adult Correfoc will open with the Ceptrotada, a joint lighting of the scepters, pitchforks and banners carried by Lucifer, the She-Devil, the Great Devil and other characters from the participating fire-running groups.

A La Mercè tradition since 1979
The Mercè Correfoc began in 1979 as the Mostra de Bèsties Fantàstiques, or Exhibition of Fantastic Beasts. It was created as part of efforts to renew and broaden participation in Barcelona’s main festival, La Mercè.
People attending can use the published route to choose where to watch or take part in the procession, and families can plan around the children’s event at 18:00 on Saturday.
