Historic Streets Transformed for 25th Edition

Castell d’Aro, a town in the Girona province, will host its 25th annual medieval fair on 22 and 23 August 2026. The event transforms the town’s historic centre, designated a Cultural Asset of National Interest, into a living medieval village, offering free access to all visitors. Located just over an hour’s drive from Barcelona on the Costa Brava, the fair has become a summer highlight, combining beach tourism with immersive history for families and visitors of all ages.

Living History at Benedormiens Castle

The festival centres on Benedormiens Castle, a stone fortress first documented in 1041, and the adjacent Church of Santa Maria. These historic structures form the backdrop for dozens of stalls selling handmade crafts and traditional foods. Visitors can watch live demonstrations of medieval trades, including blacksmithing and glassblowing, in the alleys around Plaça Santa Maria and on Constitution Square. Street performances, minstrels, and oriental dances bring the atmosphere to life throughout the weekend.

It’s not a fair like any other; it’s a full immersion into history that captivates from the first moment.

Children’s workshops, traditional games, and interactive activities are included, making it a family-friendly event. A temporary medieval encampment adds to the authenticity, while theatrical performances and itinerant shows appear at various points across the old town.
