Barcelona police arrested a suspect in Horta early on Friday after an attempted break-in at a residential building caused a major water leak.
The incident left damage to the water installation and disrupted the block. Police said officers contained the leak at the scene, but residents should still check any notices from the property manager or building administrator.
According to the Barcelona City Police, a patrol on surveillance duty spotted a hooded person tampering with a meter cabinet. When officers moved in, the suspect tried to run off, but was later found hiding in bushes near the building.
Police said the suspect had entered the property by jumping a wall, which damaged the water installation and led to what officers described as a significant leak. A neighbour’s alert and the evidence found at the scene led to the arrest, and the case is being handled as robbery with force.
