Weather warnings

  • Meteocat has issued fresh alerts for Monday 19 October. Between 14:00 on Monday and 08:00 on Tuesday, rainfall could top 40 mm in 30 minutes (level 4 of 6 on the danger scale), chiefly along the coast and pre-coastal zones of central Catalonia and Tarragona.
  • A further Meteocat alert, rated danger level 2 out of 6, applies to rainfall of over 60 mm in three hours, running from 14:00 on Monday to 02:00 on Tuesday.
  • Protecció Civil has said that Meteocat is forecasting heavy rain over Catalonia on Monday, with totals that could exceed 100 litres per square metre in 24 hours across most of the territory. According to 3Cat, 11 comarques will be at high risk from midday on Monday. Sunday will see rain across the board.
  • Meteocat reported at 13:00 that instability will return on Monday, with 50 to 100 mm expected across many comarques. On the coast, in pre-coastal areas and on the southern slope of the Pyrenees, more than 100 mm could fall in places. The cut-off low, known as DANA Adam, may bring a significant spell of rain between Monday and Tuesday, and how far it extends will depend on where it finally settles.
  • Protecció Civil will also test its chemical-risk sirens at 10:00 on Monday 19 October, 3Cat reports. The drill involves an ES-Alert in 47 municipalities, most of them in the Camp de Tarragona, Baix Llobregat and Barcelonès, and affects about 930,000 people. It is a test, not an emergency.
  • Meteocat forecasts a mostly wet Sunday, with rain or drizzle in nearly all areas. The precipitation will be light to moderate and feel more wintry than Saturday's, which was heavy and torrential. In the western Pyrenees, the snow line is expected to sit at about 1,800 metres.
