Advertising terms and content policy

Last updated: June 2026

1. Who you are buying from

Advertising and sponsored features on Barna.News are sold and invoiced by Owen Alexander Hughes, a self-employed sole trader (autónomo) registered in Spain, NIF Y4523795P, fiscal address Avinguda Marquès de l'Argentera 5, 08003 Barcelona. Barna.News is a publication operated by Pub.Cat.

Contact for all advertising matters: [email protected]. For feature articles: [email protected].

2. What we sell

We offer two paid products:

  • Banner placements. Three positions (top, middle, bottom), one banner per position at a time, each running for a 28-day campaign. Banners are embedded directly in our pages and appear site-wide.
  • Sponsored feature articles. A journalist visits your business, photographs it, and writes an 800 to 1,500 word article, published permanently and distributed across our channels.

Current prices are shown on our banner advertising and feature articles pages.

3. Prices and VAT

All prices shown are the base amount. We are a Spanish autónomo: for Spanish businesses we add 21% IVA and deduct a 7% IRPF retención that you remit to the tax office yourself.

Spanish business customers pay the base plus 21% IVA, less a 7% IRPF retención which you remit to the tax office yourself; you can reclaim the IVA. Business customers in another EU country are not charged Spanish IVA, as VAT is accounted for by you under the reverse-charge mechanism. Either way, to issue your invoice correctly we need your registered business name, address, and NIF or VAT number.

4. Booking, payment and going live

You book and pay securely through Stripe using the buttons on our advertising pages, or we send you a payment link directly. Payment confirms your booking, subject to the content policy below.

Banners

  • Send your finished banner to [email protected], or buy our design service and send us your logo, message and link.
  • Specification: 728 × 90px desktop and 320 × 50px mobile; JPEG, PNG, GIF or WebP; maximum 150KB static or 500KB animated; supply the destination web address and one line of alt text.
  • Your banner goes live within two working days of us receiving it and approving it, and runs for 28 days from go-live.
  • One free creative change is included per 28-day cycle, and the allowance resets if you renew. Further changes in the same cycle are 50 euros each. Any change needed because of our error is always free.

Feature articles

  • After payment we contact you within one working day to arrange the visit.
  • You review and approve the draft before publication and may request reasonable amendments.
  • The article is published within ten working days of the visit and stays live permanently.

5. What we will and will not run

We review every banner and every feature before it goes live. We accept advertising from legitimate businesses and organisations whose creative is honest and lawful.

We will not run advertising or sponsored content that is:

  • Illegal, or that promotes illegal goods, services or activity.
  • Misleading, deceptive, or making unverifiable claims.
  • Adult or sexual content, gambling or betting, or cryptocurrency trading and speculative financial products.
  • Promoting tobacco, vaping, weapons, or unlicensed medical, health or financial advice.
  • Hateful, discriminatory, defamatory, or attacking a person or group.
  • Infringing someone else's trademark, copyright or other rights.

We may decline any creative at our discretion, including on grounds of editorial fit. If we cannot run a banner you have paid for, you receive a full refund.

6. Political and civic content

We do not carry advocacy for any political party, candidate, referendum position, or political outcome.

We will carry non-partisan civic content, such as a neutral encouragement to register or vote, provided the creative itself is genuinely non-partisan. The test is the creative and the destination, not who is paying for it.

For any civic or voting-related placement, the creative must:

  • Promote only the action (for example, registering or voting) and point to a neutral, official resource. No party, candidate, slogan, or position.
  • Use no partisan branding, colours, logos or imagery.
  • Carry a single destination web address that is a non-partisan resource, not a party or campaign page.
  • Carry a clear sponsorship label, and name the funding organisation where transparency law requires it.

Paid political and civic advertising is subject to transparency law, including the EU rules on political advertising and Spanish requirements. We may be required to publish a transparency notice and keep records. We confirm these obligations before any such placement goes live, and we reserve the right to decline.

7. How paid content is labelled

Honesty with our readers is non-negotiable and required by Spanish advertising law and EU rules.

  • Banners are clearly presented as advertising.
  • Feature articles are published with a visible Sponsored Feature label at the top of the article and wherever the article is promoted. They are written honestly from a real visit; they are not disguised as ordinary editorial.

8. Refunds and cancellation

These are business-to-business sales, so statutory consumer cooling-off rights do not apply. Our policy is:

Banners

  • Cancel before your banner goes live: full refund.
  • Once live, the placement is reserved and runs for the booked 28 days, so we do not refund part-way through for a change of mind.
  • If we fail to deliver the placement (for example, extended downtime caused by us), you receive a pro-rata credit or an equivalent extension.
  • If we decline your creative under the content policy, full refund.

Feature articles

  • Cancel before the visit is arranged: full refund, less the payment processing fee.
  • Cancel after the visit but before publication: 50% refund, reflecting the journalist's time and photography already spent.
  • After publication: no refund, as the work is delivered and permanent. You may still request reasonable corrections.

9. Payment disputes

If something is wrong, contact us first at [email protected] and we will put it right quickly. We respond to all card and payment disputes with evidence of the agreed booking and proof that the placement was delivered. Raising a dispute with your card provider without contacting us first is likely to slow resolution down, not speed it up.

10. Your data

We collect only what we need to take your booking, issue your invoice, and deliver and report on your campaign: your contact details, business details and tax number, and the payment record held by Stripe. We keep invoices and booking records for the period required by law. We do not sell your data. Requests about your data: [email protected].

11. Governing law

These terms are governed by Spanish law, and the Spanish courts have jurisdiction. Nothing here removes any right you have that cannot be excluded by law.
