Heatwave Ends with Weekend Storms
Barcelona will see unstable weather from Friday 21 August, breaking a streak of 46 consecutive nights above 25°C, the longest such period this summer. The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) forecasts a 100% chance of rain between 12:00 and 24:00 on Friday, with temperatures peaking around 28°C and lows near 21°C.
Day-by-Day Forecast
On Saturday 22 August, precipitation remains likely at 85% for both morning and evening hours. Maximum temperatures are expected to dip slightly to 26°C, with minimums around 20°C. Sunday 23 August holds similar conditions, with an 85% probability of rain and highs steady at 26°C.
The heatwave has broken, but humidity remains high. These storms will bring temporary relief but also potential for localised downpours.
Return to Warm Weather Expected
From Monday 24 August, conditions will stabilise. Rainfall probability drops sharply, skies are expected to clear, and temperatures may rise again, nearing 30°C by midweek. Currently, AEMET lists no weather warnings for the Barcelona coastal area despite ongoing humidity. Before the shift, Tuesday 18 August saw a maximum temperature of 33°C, with a 'feels like' temperature of 37°C due to high humidity. Minimums hovered around 27°C, under overcast morning skies that cleared to partly cloudy by late afternoon.
