Fire Destroys Six Vehicles, Damages Seventh
Six cars were deliberately set alight and completely destroyed in a pre-dawn arson attack in the Pla d’en Boet district of Mataró early Wednesday 23 September 2026. A seventh vehicle sustained damage. The incident occurred in a parking area near Carrasco i Formiguera street, close to Lluís Companys street.
The Mossos d'Esquadra are investigating the incident, as this is not the first time burned vehicles have appeared in the area.
Pattern of Arson Raises Concerns
The latest fire follows another incident just days earlier, on 1 September 2026, when three vehicles were burned on Sant Cugat street, approximately 300 metres from the local Mossos d'Esquadra police station. Two cars and a van were destroyed in that blaze, which began around 5:00 AM. Police confirmed the fire spread rapidly from one vehicle to the others parked nearby, but have not yet established the cause.
One Suspect Detained, Links Under Investigation
On 1 September, a 40-year-old man was arrested by the Mossos d'Esquadra in connection with the burning of a single vehicle at the junction of Carrasco i Formiguera and Lluís Companys streets. The arrest occurred around 23:20. Mataró mayor David Bote publicly suggested the same individual may also be responsible for the earlier triple vehicle fire, citing the close proximity and similar timing of the incidents. However, the Mossos have not officially confirmed a link between the suspect and the earlier fire. They are continuing their investigation into the series of arson attacks in the Pla d’en Boet industrial area.
