High-Speed Scooter Chase Ends in Crash

Two individuals riding an electric scooter attempted to flee from Mossos d'Esquadra officers in L'Hospitalet de Llobregat on Sunday, 27 September 2026, leading to a crash into a parked vehicle. The incident occurred after officers flagged down the scooter for carrying two people, a violation of safety rules, and the riders accelerated to evade a fine. During the short pursuit, the driver lost control at high speed and collided with a stationary car, causing both occupants to fall and sustain minor injuries. Scooter Clocked at 114km/h

The Guàrdia Urbana conducted a speed test on the seized scooter using a radar gun and confirmed it could reach 114 km/h. This exceeds the legal limit for Personal Mobility Vehicles (PMVs), which is capped at 25 km/h under municipal regulations. The scooter had been illegally modified to achieve such speeds. Under Article 38 of the L'Hospitalet Mobility Ordinance, PMVs must not exceed 25 km/h and are prohibited from carrying more than one person unless specifically designed for two riders. The scooter involved was a single-seater model.

The excessive speed and double occupancy posed serious risks to public safety on urban roads.

The two individuals have been charged with operating a modified personal mobility vehicle and illegally transporting a passenger. The scooter has been impounded at the municipal depot managed by La Farga Gestió d’Equipaments Municipals SA, the city’s wholly owned operator for vehicle recovery and storage, as outlined in the municipal public service regulations on vehicle removal and management.
