Temporary Closure for Maintenance

The Magic Fountain of Montjuïc and the fountains along Avinguda Maria Cristina will be turned off from Sunday 1st November to Sunday 15th November 2026 for their annual maintenance period. During this time, the fountain will not host its regular music and light show. Barcelona City Council confirmed the technical shutdown is necessary to carry out mandatory cleaning, disinfection, and preventive maintenance on the fountain’s systems. Priority work includes cleaning the basins and structural elements, servicing water feature valves, and inspecting mechanical components responsible for the fountain’s oscillating and rotating movements.

Shows Resume on 19th November

The Magic Fountain’s choreographed music and colour performances will resume on Thursday 19th November 2026. From that date, shows will run weekly on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at 8:00 PM to 9:00 PM under winter hours, continuing until 31st March 2027. The fountain, a landmark built for the 1929 International Exhibition by engineer Carles Buigas, attracts around 2.5 million visitors annually. Its performances combine water, light, and music in over 7 billion possible combinations, according to the city council.

The annual maintenance ensures the fountain remains safe and operational for visitors, while supporting Barcelona’s commitment to sustainability and infrastructure longevity.

Further details about the fountain’s history, operation, and schedule are available on the official Barcelona City Council Magic Fountain webpage.
