The Assemblea Nacional Catalana (ANC), a pro-independence civic organisation, has called demonstrations in Barcelona, Girona and Amposta for Catalonia’s 2026 National Day, known as the Diada. In Barcelona, the political event is planned for Plaça de Catalunya after two columns converge there.

Residents and visitors travelling through central Barcelona should be aware that the announced routes begin at Casanova Street and Gran Via, and at Plaça de la Catedral. The information released so far does not give start times, traffic restrictions or public-transport changes.

Two Barcelona columns will meet in Plaça de Catalunya

According to the plans reported by Ara, the main Barcelona column will leave from the junction of Casanova Street and Gran Via. A separate youth column will set off from Plaça de la Catedral.

Both groups are scheduled to converge at Plaça de Catalunya, where the political gathering will be held. Girona and Amposta will host the other two demonstrations in the decentralised programme.

ANC’s 2026 campaign uses a yellow shirt

The ANC presented its 2026 Diada campaign shirt and slogan on 25 June. The yellow garment carries the Catalan-language message “I am here. We are here. Independence”, according to an ANC statement reported by Europa Press.

The organisation called on the independence movement to “maintain and complete the path” towards independence.

The shirt was made entirely in Mataró, according to the ANC. The organisation has linked the campaign to its call for people to return to the streets.
