## Residents Raise Environmental Concerns

A 97.5-metre-high meteorological tower has been erected in the forested Can Amigó estate in Socies, Corbera de Llobregat, to study the viability of a future mini wind farm. The installation, part of a renewable energy initiative by the Metropolitan Area of Barcelona (AMB), has sparked concern among residents of the nearby scattered settlement, who fear environmental and landscape impacts. The tower, placed on privately owned land, will collect wind data for up to two years to determine whether the site is suitable for wind energy production. It forms part of a wider AMB Climate Action Area project assessing small wind farms in Corbera, El Papiol and Begues, with the aim of achieving a combined 19 MW capacity. If developed, 10% of the energy generated would be allocated to the host municipality.

## City Council Promotes Dialogue

In response to resident concerns, the Corbera de Llobregat City Council has announced plans for an informational meeting with technical project managers. The council stresses that the project remains in the study phase and that no decision to install turbines has been made.

> We want to reassure residents; this is not a decision that has already been made, and if it is finally installed, we will ensure the impact is minimal

Rosa Boladeras, mayor of Corbera de Llobregat, told El Periódico that the tower’s sole purpose is to assess wind conditions. She acknowledged the concerns of the seven or eight households in Socies but highlighted the potential benefits of clean energy production for the town. The study phase costs 100,000 euros, jointly funded by the AMB and the Generalitat de Catalunya. Land preparation work has received authorisation from the Generalitat’s Department of Agriculture. At the end of the monitoring period, the tower will be dismantled and the land restored. Residents’ worries centre on the proximity of the structure to protected natural areas and its visual impact. The council has pledged that any future renewable energy project will balance environmental protection with sustainable development.
