## Expanded Service Reflects Mobility Shifts

Vueling has announced it will extend its Barcelona-Madrid flight route through summer 2027, adding 260,000 extra seats to meet growing travel demand. The move brings total capacity on the route to nearly 350,000 seats, according to a statement released by the airline on Thursday 5th November 2026\. This week, the carrier increased service with an additional daily flight from Tuesday to Thursday, bringing frequencies to three per day on those days. The airline plans to progressively expand to five daily flights during peak periods and high-demand days, using larger aircraft where needed.

## Response to Rail Disruptions and Business Travel

Vueling reinstated the route on 5th October 2026 after suspending it in 2025 due to strong competition from high-speed rail. The return was prompted by ongoing disruptions to AVE services, including delays and planned suspension of service for infrastructure improvements. The airline attributes the extension to increased professional travel, with many businesses shifting from rail to air due to reliability concerns. The route was initially scheduled to run until 29th March 2027, but strong passenger numbers have led to the decision to continue through summer.

## Network Adjustments Following Andalusia Accidents

Following the Urda rail accident, Vueling has also strengthened logistics on routes from Barcelona to Andalusia. Since 29th October, the airline has added more than 7,200 extra seats on flights to Seville, Málaga, Jerez, and Madrid. From January 2027, the Barcelona–Seville route will operate eight daily frequencies, up from seven.
