The session, held at the Florida 6.0 facility, brought together residents and organisations to contribute ideas to the preliminary Urban Development Master Plan (PDU), which covers nearly 70 hectares across L'Hospitalet, Barcelona, and Esplugues. The PDU, approved in preliminary form by the Porta Diagonal-Clínic Campus Consortium on 2nd September 2026, sets the framework for transforming the area into a new metropolitan hub. A public participation process is now underway, running from September to December 2026, with two further in-person sessions scheduled: one in Barcelona later today and another in Esplugues on Monday 2nd November 2026\. On sustainability, residents called for new green spaces to act as climate refuges, fully integrated with existing urban infrastructure. Mobility emerged as a key concern due to the expected influx from a new hospital and up to 1,125 homes, of which at least 50% will be protected housing. To address congestion, proposals included an underground car park and an intercity bus station designed to serve as a transport interchange with the future metro station on line 3\. The relocation of L'Hospitalet Nord athletics tracks to Bellvitge was also discussed in relation to transport impacts. > The goal is to create a cohesive, accessible and sustainable urban environment that connects three municipalities The new Faculty of Pharmacy and Food Sciences of the University of Barcelona (UB) will be located in Esplugues and is expected to open in the 2032–2033 academic year, increasing student capacity by 30% to 3,000\. The campus will include 380,000 square metres of healthcare, teaching, and research space, with up to 120,000 square metres for complementary uses such as a researcher residence. ## Project Timeline and Next Steps The Urban Development Master Plan is expected to receive initial approval in the first half of 2027 and final approval at the start of 2028\. Urban development works in the surrounding area are scheduled to begin in the second half of 2028, coordinated with land preparation for campus construction, which is set to start in 2030\. The new Clínic hospital is expected to open in 2035, coinciding with the launch of the new metro station. The project, estimated to cost €1.7 billion, is classified by the Catalan Government as being of general interest.
