## New Degree for 2027–2028 Academic Year

The Universitat Internacional de Catalunya (UIC) will launch a Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics and Data Science in the 2027–2028 academic year, according to an official announcement published on 3rd November 2026\. The four-year, 240-credit programme is designed to train graduates who understand both the theoretical foundations of mathematical models and their practical applications in technology-driven sectors. The degree, offered by the UIC School of Management, combines rigorous training in pure mathematics, including calculus, algebra, mathematical analysis, probability, and statistics, with core computing skills in algorithms, data structures, databases, and high-performance computing.

## Curriculum Combines Theory and Practice

Students will also receive specialised instruction in data science and applied artificial intelligence, covering machine learning, deep learning, data visualisation, natural language processing, computer vision, and agentive AI. The curriculum treats mathematics as a standalone discipline, not merely a tool for data analysis, fostering abstract reasoning and analytical depth. The programme includes 24 credits of mandatory external internships with industry partners, followed by a 6-credit final degree project linked to professional experience. This practical component aims to bridge academic learning with real-world challenges in sectors such as healthcare, finance, and technology.

## Humanistic and Ethical Training Included

Beyond technical skills, the degree integrates a humanistic dimension through subjects in Anthropology, Ethics, and Humanistic Training, alongside professional communication and career development modules. These aim to produce well-rounded graduates capable of making responsible, ethically informed decisions in data-intensive environments. Toni Mora, dean of the UIC School of Management, stated the degree responds to growing demand for professionals who can turn complex data into rigorous, actionable insights in an increasingly data-dependent world.
