The cases involved an electronics shop and several restaurants. For affected Poblenou business owners, the alleged thefts also caused damage to shutters and entrance doors, as well as losses of cash and other property.

## Four reports filed during August

The complaints were made on 13, 16, 27 and 31 August. Investigators allege that the two men forced doors or entrances with a crowbar before taking cash, tills and valuables.

In one case, investigators also allege that a bank card taken during the break-in was used fraudulently.

## Video footage used in investigation

Metrópoli Abierta reported that Sant Martí's Mossos d'Esquadra Investigation Unit identified the suspects by reviewing security-camera recordings from the businesses and carrying out follow-up enquiries on the ground.

- The 42-year-old had 61 previous police records.
- The 50-year-old had 48 previous police records.
- Together, they had 109 police records, mostly linked to alleged property offences of a similar kind.

Police records are previous entries in police systems and do not in themselves establish criminal convictions. The two men were brought before a judge on 13 September.

The arrests formed part of Mossos d'Esquadra operations focused on investigating and preventing forced-entry thefts in Barcelona during the summer, when police say some commercial areas have fewer people on the streets.
