## Free Public Display This Weekend

On Saturday 31st October and Sunday 1st November 2026, tram number 5 of the Tramvia Blau will be open for public viewing between Plaça Kennedy and Carrer de García Mariño. The tram will not run its full route but will move briefly to enter and exit its depot, allowing visitors to board free of charge. The display runs from 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM on Saturday and from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM on Sunday. Inside, passengers will see original features from the early 20th century, including a metal sign reading "Spitting is prohibited". This event marks the 125th anniversary of the tram’s first journey on 29th October 1901, which originally connected to the Tibidabo amusement park and funicular.

## Service Halted Since 2018

The Tramvia Blau ceased regular operations on 29th January 2018 due to safety concerns over its aging infrastructure, as confirmed in official TMB reports. Since then, a provisional closure has remained in place at Plaça Kennedy. According to TMB, the upcoming full renovation will include the restoration of four historic tram vehicles, a complete overhaul of the 1.28-kilometre track, and extensive urban upgrades to Avinguda del Tibidabo. The project is funded by a municipal commitment of €46 million, approved under the Metropolitan Transport Authority’s 2018–2021 Contract Programme. However, no firm timeline has been set for the completion of works, which are expected to take at least four years.

> The historic transport will remain a living tool for cultural outreach through the TMB Educa programme during the closure.

### Additional Commemorative Events

As part of the anniversary celebrations, TMB will host open house days at the tram depot on Carrer de Bosch i Alsina on 14th and 15th November. The depot, located beneath the Ronda de Dalt, will welcome the public to view the trams in storage. A commemorative ticket will be issued for the anniversary, and an exhibition on the history of the Tramvia Blau will run throughout November at the Mercè Sala space, Carrer del Rosselló 243.
