## Severe weather disrupts travel and triggers alerts

Sant Cugat is facing widespread disruption on Monday 5 October after a heavy storm dumped over 20 litres per square metre in just 30 minutes. The downpour has caused major transport failures, with highways blocked, commuter rail services suspended and local roads impassable due to flooding and fallen trees. At around 10 a.m., Civil Protection issued an Es-Alert to mobile phones across the municipality, warning of torrential rain until 2 p.m. Residents are urged to avoid non-essential travel, stay away from streams and rivers, avoid basements and move to upper floors if water enters their homes. The Meteorological Service of Catalonia has maintained a level-5 weather alert, out of a scale of 6, for intense rainfall in the area. The alert for the Vallès Occidental region remains at level 1 for the full day, with forecasts suggesting the worst of the rain may ease in the morning.

## Transport chaos on roads and rails

The AP-7 motorway is experiencing severe congestion in both directions as it passes through Sant Cugat. Long traffic jams also affect the Vallvidrera Tunnels between Rubí and Barcelona. Key internal roads in the town are blocked, including Avinguda de Villadelprat near the station, which remains closed due to a large sinkhole. Rodalies commuter rail service on the R8 line, running between Martorell and Granollers, is completely suspended, with replacement buses in operation. Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya (FGC) is running its Vallès line with altered frequencies due to weather-related disruptions. Additional rail delays affect R1, R2, R4, R7, R8 and R11 lines, according to regional rail updates ([ferroviarios.org](https://www.ferroviarios.org/incidenciascat/?ref=barna.news)).

## Flooding, fallen trees and power outages

By 10:30 a.m., the Catalan Fire Service (Bombers) had responded to at least seven incidents, including fallen trees, flooded basements and a downed lamppost in the Mira-sol area. Trees have fallen on Avinguda Pere Planas, the Vallvidrera road, and Passeig del Nard in Valldoreix. On Carrer del Nard, between Carrer del Crisantem and Carrer de l’Escayola, a fallen tree has severed utility lines and completely blocked the road, creating an electrical hazard. Parts of the road surface have collapsed on Camí de la Colònia Montserrat, forcing traffic lane reductions and rerouting of bus services via Carrers Goya and Mercè Capsir. Over 200 households remain without electricity since Sunday, compounding the impact of the ongoing storm. The situation follows a record-breaking rainfall on Saturday 3 October, when 105.3 litres per square metre were recorded, the highest 24-hour total in the town’s official history.
