## Smith Claims Victory with Record Time

New Zealander Kyle Smith won the men's middle-distance race at the 2026 Challenge Barcelona Triathlon, finishing in 3:30:39, a new course record. Smith emerged from the 1.9km swim at Mar Bella beach in third place, seven seconds behind swim leader Sven Thalmann of Germany, who clocked 23:54\. On the 88km bike leg, which ran along the coast through Montgat and Vilassar de Mar, Smith surged ahead and built a lead of nearly six minutes over Germany's Jannik Schaufer. That advantage proved decisive, allowing him to maintain control through the 21km run along Barcelona’s seafront.

> Smith’s performance marks a standout victory in one of Europe’s most competitive half-distance triathlons.

## Nielsen Overcomes Setback to Take Women’s Title

Danish athlete Anastacia Damm Nielsen won the women’s race in 4:00:59\. She did not lead out of the water, with competitors Sarah-Jane Goodwin and Maëla Moison ahead after the swim. Nielsen made her move during the cycling stage, climbing to third place despite experiencing a mechanical issue with her bike. She held her composure and entered the final run in contention. In a tightly contested finish, Nielsen overtook Italy’s Marta Bernardi, winning by just five seconds.

### Event Draws Nearly 4,000 Participants

According to Challenge Family, more than 4,000 amateur triathletes and over 70 professionals took part in the event across Saturday and Sunday. The middle-distance professional races were held on Sunday 25th October 2026\. The Barcelona City Council confirmed the race route and scale of participation via its official Info Barcelona portal, highlighting the event’s growing international profile.
