The event, held on the eve of Catalonia's National Day on 11 September, took place at the parliamentary building in Barcelona. A 54-metre-long senyera was raised on a 25-metre flagpole installed permanently on the façade of the Palau del Parlament since 2025, restoring a tradition described by the institution as one of "solemnity and importance". The ceremony began with five members of the Honour Guard of the Mossos d'Esquadra, the regional police, transporting the folded flag from inside the building to the exterior. The procession was accompanied by the Ministrers de la Ciutat playing the 'Marxa vella del comte Starhemberg'. Once outside, officers from the Mossos d'Esquadra and the Barcelona City Council's Gala Urban Guard unfolded and secured the flag to the pole. Its raising was marked by a performance of 'El cant de la senyera' by the Orfeó Català. --- ## Institutional Reception Resumes After Long Hiatus Following the flag-raising, the Parliament hosted an institutional reception for representatives from political, economic, cultural, and social sectors. This marks the second consecutive year the chamber has reinstated the reception, which had been held annually from the restoration of the institution in 1980 until 2008\. Attendees included members of the regional government (Govern) and parliamentary leadership, Government Delegate Carlos Prieto, Barcelona Provincial Council President Lluïsa Moret, former Catalan presidents José Montilla and Pere Aragonès, and trade union leaders Camil Ros of UGT and Belén López of CC.OO. Leaders and deputies from parliamentary groups PSC-Units, Junts, ERC, and Comuns were also present. Representatives from PP, Vox, CUP, and AC did not attend, though Barcelona People's Party leader Daniel Sirera was in attendance. > The raising of the senyera symbolises the continuity of Catalonia's institutions and democratic traditions, now visibly reaffirmed at the seat of its legislature.
