# Second High-Speed Track Reopens on Madrid-Barcelona Line

## Normal Service Resumes After 25km Closure

Adif has reopened the second high-speed track on the Madrid-Barcelona corridor, restoring double-line operation as of Monday 19th October 2026\. The 25km section near Ricla, Aragon, had been closed since an AVE train caught fire between Madrid and Barcelona on Monday 12th October, disrupting services for over a week. Both tracks are now fully operational, allowing Renfe, Ouigo and Iryo to gradually return to normal service frequencies. The resumption follows final safety inspections and the removal of the damaged train, which had required single-line operation through the area, causing widespread delays.

## Passengers Advised to Check Real-Time Updates

While full circulation has been restored, Adif continues to recommend passengers check the real-time status of their services via the [Estado de la red](https://www.adif.es/viajeros/estado-de-la-red?ref=barna.news) portal. The incident initially affected more than 12,000 passengers, according to reports from 12th October, with services suspended or rerouted during the emergency response. The fire, which broke out in a non-passenger carriage, was extinguished by emergency services without injuries. Investigation into the cause remains ongoing.

said a spokesperson for Adif in an official statement published Monday morning.

### Wider Network Delays Continue Elsewhere

Separate delays are still being reported on other lines. These include:

- High-speed services between Madrid and Málaga due to power loss in the catenary near Antequera Santa Ana
- R2 Sud commuter line in Catalonia between Cunit and Vilanova i la Geltrú
- Cercanías lines in Asturias due to cable theft near Gijón, Perlora and Ablaña

Travellers on these routes are advised to consult operator updates before travel.
