## Medieval Reenactment Draws Hundreds to Vallès Oriental

Sant Pere de Vilamajor, a town 50 kilometres north of Barcelona in the Vallès Oriental region, will return to the 12th century this weekend with the 33rd edition of the Vilamagore Medieval fair. On Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 November, more than 400 local volunteers will recreate life in 1156, when the Counts of Barcelona held court in the town’s now-lost comital palace. The event, organised by the Ajuntament de Sant Pere de Vilamajor in collaboration with the Associació Vilamagore Medieval, centres on a historical episode tied to the visits of Count Ramon Berenguer IV and Queen Petronila of Aragon between June 1156 and April 1157\. The reenactment draws inspiration from Teresa Sagrera’s novel *Confidències d'una reina*, which explores Petronila’s time in the town.

## Theatre, Combat and Market Bring History to Life

A theatrical guided tour of key sites, including the ruins of the old palace, will kick off the festivities on Friday 6 November at 6:30 PM. Led by author Teresa Sagrera and La Mongia coordinator Higini Herrero, the free two-hour walk begins at La Mongia under the bell tower, with check-in at 6:20 PM. Over the weekend, visitors can follow the unfolding narrative across multiple stages in the old town. On Saturday 7 November, the story begins at 10:30 AM at the threshing floor of Can Suquet with a druid and banished witches. At 11:30 AM, the group Acers Trempats presents *Justícia nòmada*, a performance combining theatre, combat, and dance, at the warriors’ camp. The day culminates at noon with a reenactment of the siege of the Suda de Tortosa on the Can Suquet esplanade. On Sunday 8 November, the narrative concludes with the return of the banished women and the burning of the tower, unfolding from 7:00 PM between Can Suquet and La Força.

> Families can join a treasure hunt across the market, collecting keys from seven characters to unlock a prize at La Mongia.

The medieval market, set up along Carrer dels Lledoners, Plaça dels Comtes de Barcelona, and Avinguda de Sant Nonet, features artisans, food stalls, and itinerant characters including monks, a barber, a jester, and dragon egg keepers. A children’s game invites participants to find seven characters guarding keys to a chest; once collected, the keys unlock a prize at La Mongia.

## Medieval Flavours at Local Taverns

Two taverns serve food throughout the event. La Taverna, near the rectory, and La Taverneta, close to La Mongia, both offer slow-roasted pork sandwiches, Montseny butifarra, pancetta, and meat or mushroom empanadas. A set menu combines an empanada with a sandwich, drink, and coffee. Both serve spiced wine, known as 'vi piment', but each has its own specialty: La Taverna offers homemade broth, while La Taverneta serves hot spiced wine and a warm, non-alcoholic apple drink. The Cau de Bruixes (Witches’ Lair), open for one euro with a ticket from La Taverneta, runs on Sunday from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM and 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM.
