## Restoration Completes in Plaça Molina

The Sant Gervasi station building on the Barcelona-Vallès line has reopened after renovation works concluded in early November 2026\. The structure, located in Plaça Molina, underwent a comprehensive refurbishment that began in March at a cost of €669,717.80 before VAT. Carles Ruiz Novella, president of Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya (FGC), and Esther García Torralbo, director of Rolling Stock and Railway Network at FGC, visited the site on Monday 2nd November to mark the completion of the project.

## Structural and Aesthetic Upgrades

The works focused on improving the building’s structural stability, repairing leaks in the facade and roof, and renewing the glass enclosure and entire roof envelope. A key feature of the restoration was the reinstatement of the perimeter glass canopy, which had been removed in 1960\. It has now been rebuilt to match its original 1931 appearance, using modern fixing elements and new glazing. The building has an exterior surface area of 58m², with 5m² dedicated to elevator access. It is supported by ten mixed concrete pillars with steel cores, features a zinc roof, and has four facades with glass enclosures in stainless steel frames.

## Historic Station Sees Rising Use

Sant Gervasi station, originally opened in 1863, saw its current structure built in 1929 to cover the access staircase after the tracks were buried. The rectangular masonry prism, with pilasters and pillars supporting a metal roof, contributes to the character of Plaça Molina and allows natural light to reach the platform below. In 2009, an interchange was created to connect the Barcelona-Tibidabo line with the Vallès branches, enhancing accessibility while preserving the site’s historic value. The station, part of the FGC’s S1, S2, and L6 lines, recorded 1.47 million journeys in 2025, a 4.5% increase from the previous year. It is situated adjacent to the Plaça Molina station on line L7.

This renovation forms part of FGC’s ongoing maintenance and modernisation programme to ensure service quality, structural robustness, and punctuality across its network.
