The project, which spans nearly 165 hectares, is described by Villanueva as "the largest civil engineering project currently underway in the entire country". Once complete, the area will house around 25,000 residents in approximately 11,000 new homes, nearly half of which are planned to be subsidised. The future high-speed train station and an extensive linear park are central to the transformation, with the station expected to open by 2032. ## New Homes, Facilities and Economic Zones Planned The development will include 84,000 m² of hotel space, 480,000 m² dedicated to new economic activity, and 200,000 m² for public facilities. Among the planned amenities are: - Two new primary care centres - Sports facilities - Vocational training institutes - Civic and cultural centres - Nurseries and elderly residences - A site dedicated to historical memory A key component is the future "ecodistrict" on the former Mercedes-Benz factory site, where 1,300 new homes will be built. Other areas set for renewal include Rambla de Prim and Bon Pastor, where the fifth phase of redevelopment will proceed. ## Rehousing Agreement Expanded for Trinitat Vella Residents Villanueva announced a reformulation of the Trinitat Nord project agreement, affecting residents of Patronat housing near the former women's prison in Trinitat Vella. Previously, only one-third of these residents had the legal right to rehousing due to demolition and redevelopment plans. Following negotiations between the City Council and local entities, "it is expected that the vast majority can be rehoused", Villanueva confirmed. --- ## Imminent Local Improvements Underway Two immediate actions were highlighted for the district. First, the painting of a new green zone in Trinitat Vella, addressing long-standing complaints about non-residents occupying parking spaces during the day via the "park & ride" system. Second, the full opening of the CEM Sagrera community centre is imminent. After a year-and-a-half delay in launching its swimming pool, the facility is now operational. The remaining activities will begin once rooms are equipped with machinery, which Villanueva said could happen within weeks.
