Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez has urged the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE) to support a proposed regional funding model, telling an event in Gavà on Sunday that it would give Spain's autonomous communities more than €21 billion in additional resources.

For Catalan residents, the proposal matters because Catalonia was one of only two autonomous communities to vote in favour of it at the Fiscal and Financial Policy Council, alongside the Canary Islands. Sánchez said the additional funding was intended to reduce waiting lists, although the proposal has not yet been approved.

Speaking alongside Salvador Illa, President of Catalonia, at the Socialist Party of Catalonia's (PSC) Fiesta de la Rosa, Sánchez criticised opposition to the reform from the Partido Popular (PP).

> “Other parties, such as the PSOE and its partners, have an obligation to vote in favour because it will give the autonomous communities more than €21 billion,” Sánchez said.

## Support at the finance council was limited

According to the account of Sánchez's speech, the proposal received favourable votes at the council from:

- the Ministry of Finance;
- the Government of Catalonia; and
- the Government of the Canary Islands.

Sánchez said he found it “incomprehensible” to oppose both the funding model and a debt write-off that the national government has linked to support for the measure.

The model was agreed between Sánchez and Oriol Junqueras, leader of ERC. It faces opposition from most autonomous communities and the PP, according to the report.

In Castilla-La Mancha, a SocioMétrica poll for *EL ESPAÑOL* found that 43% of PSOE voters wanted the region's eight Socialist deputies in Congress to vote against the model, while 10% favoured abstention and 31.7% supported a yes vote.
