[Catalonia’s Minister of Economy](https://barna.news/romero-starts-catalonias-2027-budget-pr/) and Finance, Alícia Romero, has urged Junts to state which candidate it would support in a parliamentary vote to choose Spain’s prime minister after the general election on 29 November.

In remarks reported by [La Vanguardia](https://www.lavanguardia.com/politica/20261009/11655262/romero-insta-junts-aclarar-investira-29-n-hacerlo-seria-enganar-gente.html?ref=barna.news) on Friday, Romero said Junts owed voters clarity on whether it would support the Socialist incumbent Pedro Sánchez or the People’s Party leader Alberto Núñez Feijóo. The choice could affect Catalan residents because Romero said a right-wing national government could halt planned changes to regional funding and rail agreements.

> “Míriam Nogueras will not be president of the Government of Spain, so she has to tell us who she wants to make president. Who will Junts support? The voter will want to know.”

Romero was referring to Junts’ lead candidate, Míriam Nogueras. Junts secretary-general Jordi Turull had said days earlier that the party would not support Sánchez under any circumstances if it had the option after the election, according to the report.

Nogueras has also said that the PP and Vox would not govern with Junts votes. Romero argued that Junts needed to explain how those positions would translate into a vote in the investiture process, the parliamentary confidence vote that decides who becomes prime minister.

## Funding, rail and tax powers

Romero said a PP-led government would not pursue the new financing model proposed by the current Spanish government. She also said it could stop the proposed cancellation of more than €17 billion of the Generalitat’s debt under the FLA, a state liquidity fund through which Spain has lent money to regional governments.

She identified three areas that she said could be affected:

- the proposed new regional financing model;
- further agreements on transferring responsibility for Rodalies, Catalonia’s state-run commuter and regional rail network; and
- plans to give the Catalan Tax Agency additional responsibilities within the proposed funding framework.

For Rodalies passengers, Romero said the Catalan government hoped to conclude further agreements. She said the transfer did not require approval from Spain’s Congress of Deputies, but warned that other pending measures could be abandoned if the PP formed the national government.

> “We will not gain powers or more self-government with the PP.”

The general election is scheduled for Sunday 29 November. Junts’ position on a subsequent vote to choose a prime minister remains central to Romero’s call for the party to clarify its position before polling day.
