## Incident During Early-Morning Ticket Check

A Rodalies passenger has filed a formal complaint after alleging linguistic discrimination and aggressive treatment by a Renfe ticket inspector at Manresa station on Thursday morning at around 5:30 AM. According to political scientist Joan Gil Oliveras, a friend of the affected woman, the incident occurred during an extraordinary ticket inspection at the station exit. The passenger’s T-Mobilitat app had malfunctioned and displayed a blank screen, preventing her from showing a valid digital ticket. She first approached a staff member in Catalan, who advised her to follow behind another user. However, the lead inspector intervened, accusing her of queue-jumping and ordering her to wait aside. He later instructed her to buy a new ticket, saying: "Now buy the ticket."

## "I've Already Told You I Don't Understand Catalan!"

While the passenger was being assisted at the information point in Catalan by another employee, the lead inspector interrupted, shouting: "I've already told you I don't understand Catalan!", despite the fact that she had not addressed him. The woman was eventually required to purchase a second ticket to exit the station. She has since filed an official complaint demanding a refund and denouncing the violation of her linguistic rights. Gil stressed that the incident breaches the Consumer Code of Catalonia, which guarantees the right to be served in Catalan in public services. He described the inspector’s behaviour as "illegal service and verbal violence."

> What we suffer is not normal in any country in the world.

## Rodalies Launches Internal Investigation

In response to the social media attention and media inquiry, Rodalies confirmed it has opened an internal investigation to clarify the circumstances surrounding the inspector’s conduct. The operator has requested further details from Gil, including the specific train and time, to identify the personnel involved. Gil stated he will contact Rodalies privately to avoid publicly naming the employee, though he insists the behaviour warrants disciplinary action. He cited Renfe regulations that require staff to treat passengers correctly and provide assistance in any of Catalonia’s official languages, Catalan, Spanish, or Aranese.

> Unprofessional and unsympathetic-aggressive verbal treatment is reportable. It must have consequences at Renfe.
