The total was 361,074 offences, 32,898 fewer than in January to August 2025. For residents, the figures describe fewer offences recorded by authorities, rather than a guarantee that crime has fallen in every neighbourhood or for every type of offence. The overall rate was 44.32 recorded offences per 1,000 residents. Physical-world offences, meaning crimes committed in person rather than online, fell 12.3% to 307,497\. Digital offences fell 0.8% to 53,577. ## Government says physical crime improved across most of Catalonia The Generalitat said there had been a sustained improvement in recorded physical-world crime in 96.8% of Catalonia. For local residents, that measure means the government recorded an improvement in offences committed in person across almost all of the territory it assessed, although the announcement did not give a breakdown by municipality or neighbourhood. The committee was attended by President Salvador Illa, the newly appointed Director General of Police, Ferran López, and Mossos d'Esquadra chief commissioner Sílvia Catà. López has taken over the police director-general post previously held by Josep Lluís Trapero, who resigned. --- ## Barcelona minor-offence hearings now listed within 10 days The Generalitat also reported shorter waiting times in Barcelona's criminal courts. Immediate hearings for minor offences were being listed around 10 days ahead in August 2026, compared with 8.8 months at the end of 2024. - Fast-track criminal cases in Barcelona's criminal courts were listed 13.2 months ahead, down from 18 months before an emergency plan. - Reinforcement courts were working with hearings listed around five months ahead. - In 2026, 91 new judicial units are being created across 31 judicial districts, alongside 300 civil-service posts in the justice administration and 35 public-prosecutor posts. The court changes accompany implementation of the Law on Efficiency of the Public Justice Service, which reorganises courts into Tribunals d'Instància, a system intended to pool court resources and administration.
