Montse Mínguez, the spokesperson for the Socialist Party of Catalonia (PSC) and Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE) and their lead candidate for Lleida, has been removed from her roles. This decision follows a scandal concerning the real estate holdings of her partner, Sergi Vélez, who reportedly owns around thirty rental apartments in Lleida.

While the party officially stated Mínguez's departure as a voluntary "step back" for personal reasons, internal party sources indicate her removal was a direct dismissal by the socialist leadership. The action aims to contain the controversy ahead of the general elections scheduled for Sunday 29 November, which were called amidst a national debate on the housing crisis.

The PSOE issued a statement expressing "respect" for Mínguez's decision and thanking her for her "dedication." However, this public statement is understood to mask an internal disciplinary action. Mínguez's removal means she loses her candidacy for Congress, her spokesperson role, and her position as Secretary of Studies and Programs of the Federal Executive Commission.

Mínguez commented on social media, attributing her departure to a fear of the "far-right's" rise and stating her responsibility "is above any personal consideration." This explanation is contradicted by party insiders who describe her removal as a measure to distance the party from a rental scandal that undermined its public stance on housing issues.
