The handover process has begun and the new president will be named on Tuesday 20 October 2026\. Puig made the announcement during the 20th edition of the Barcelona Comerç Awards, held on 13 October. He reflected on his tenure, which began in February 2023 when he was ratified as president, following seven years on the board. "These have been years of dedication and commitment during which we have shared concerns, debates, and projects, always with the aim of strengthening local commerce, an intense and enriching experience both professionally and personally," he said to an audience of shopkeepers, organisations, and political representatives. ## A Career Rooted in Local Commerce Puig, a master charcutier, led his family’s historic delicatessen on Gran de Sant Andreu street, founded in 1957 by his father, until its closure in 2025\. The shop was awarded the Barcelona, the Best Shop in the World prize by Barcelona City Council in 2003\. His contributions to neighbourhood commerce have been widely recognised. In 2018, he received the Medal of Honor of Barcelona for his career in quality local commerce and commitment to the Sant Andreu district.
