Five pro-independence left groups have called a rally at 6pm on 10 September at the Fossar de les Moreres, in Barcelona's El Born district, with the stated aim of preventing Aliança Catalana from holding its usual Diada event there.

Residents and visitors around the Fossar and the surrounding Born streets should expect competing political gatherings that evening. Mossos d'Esquadra, the Catalan regional police, told [El Nacional](https://www.elnacional.cat/es/politica/mossos-alerta-diada-caliente-acoso-alianca-fossar-nucleo-nacional-barcelona%5F1688158%5F102.html?ref=barna.news) that securing the entrances to the square could be necessary to prevent clashes between the two groups of participants.

## Groups set out aim for Fossar gathering

Alerta Solidària, Arran, COS, Endavant and SEPC are named as signatories to the call for the concentration. Their poster carries the slogan:

> “Antifascist unity for a land for everyone.”

According to the report, social-media material circulated by the groups calls for Aliança Catalana members to be removed from the Fossar de les Moreres. The square is a regular meeting point for pro-independence parties on the afternoon before Catalonia's National Day, commemorating those who died during Barcelona's 1714 siege.

## Police planning follows protests in Igualada and Sants

Mossos intelligence services expected a larger police operation than the previous year, according to El Nacional, because the square cannot practically be divided into separate areas for opposing demonstrations.

The report described two recent incidents involving opponents of Aliança Catalana. At a local festival meal in Igualada, protesters threw salt into a paella being prepared by party members in the street before the group was forced away following arguments.

In Sants, a group of young people surrounded an Aliança Catalana stall and threw objects at it, including containers of salt, the report said.

ARA reported that, at the previous year's Fossar event, the Mossos deployed riot police at all entrances and prevented 40 Arran members from entering the square. Aliança Catalana completed its floral tribute; ARA recorded two later incidents in which supporters heckled a TV3 journalist and surrounded journalist Cake Minuesa, prompting police to move both men away.

People intending to attend either gathering should go to the Fossar de les Moreres for the announced 6pm start and follow access instructions issued by the Mossos at the site.
