Barcelona has confirmed that [Primavera Sound](https://www.primaverasound.com/?ref=barna.news) will be the only festival allowed to use the Fòrum marine platform each year. The [Ajuntament de Barcelona](https://www.barcelona.cat/?ref=barna.news) says the 12.7-hectare space will be kept mainly for citizen use for the other 11 months of the year.

The platform sits where Rambla Prim, Passeig Marítim and the Besòs-Badalona axis meet. City officials want the site to host neighbourhood and city activities, and they have ruled out other music festivals at this specific location.

The decision matters for nearby areas including Diagonal Mar, Front Marítim del Poblenou and Besòs i el Maresme, where residents are taking part in a consultation process about the platform's future. Primavera Sound usually places its two main stages on this large site during the festival.

The next step is a participatory process with local community groups. Workshops will gather ideas from residents to help define how the platform should be used after the planned renovation. The wider plan is part of a coastal front park project stretching from CEM Marbella to the Tres Xemeneies in Sant Adrià de Besòs.

The city has already chosen the winning design for the transformation. The team of Esteyco and Estudi Martí Franch (EMF) will lead the work, turning the platform into a large public space with facilities and services. The biggest addition will be a football pitch with stands.

Officials expect the building work to finish between 2030 and 2031\. The project is estimated to cost 52 million euros, with annual spending of about 10 million euros. It is also expected to create a renewed pedestrian route from Port Vell to the Fòrum, starting from the Mar Bella area.
