The party is calling for the project to be restored to its original scope as a reference hospital with inpatient, surgical, diagnostic, and medical services. The future centre, officially named the Vicente Ferrer High Resolution Centre, is due to be built on a 20,000 m² site on Carrer Sòcrates in Rubí, adjacent to Sant Cugat’s municipal boundary. It will serve residents of Sant Cugat, Rubí and Castellbisbal, collectively home to nearly 200,000 people. Initially, plans announced in January 2024 by the Generalitat included a full hospital with 190 beds, 8 operating theatres, 36 consultation rooms, 15 examination rooms, 39 emergency bays and 15 dialysis monitors. However, according to the PP, the project has since been downgraded. --- ## Current plan limited to day services Under the current model confirmed by Health Minister Olga Pané, the centre will be ambulatory, meaning it will not admit inpatients. It will offer day hospitalisation, minor and outpatient major surgery, urgent care, complementary tests, haemodialysis and diagnostic imaging including X-rays, CT scans, endoscopies and colonoscopies. The functional plan for the centre is nearly complete and is expected to be approved in October 2026\. The Generalitat aims to award the executive project contract in 2027, with the facility due to enter service around 2032\. The PP argues that this falls far short of the long-promised comarcal hospital. PP councillor Estrella Salanova said: > Sant Cugat has been waiting for a reference hospital for more than twenty years. We cannot accept that, after so many years of announcements and commitments, the project keeps getting smaller and smaller until it becomes a centre that will not have the hospital services we need. ### Call for full services and inter-municipal cooperation The party’s motion calls on the Generalitat to upgrade the facility to a full hospital and to include the necessary funding in upcoming budgets. It also urges the councils of Rubí and Castellbisbal to support the demand. The PP has previously raised the issue: in February 2024, it tabled a motion rejecting cutbacks to the project, which did not pass. The party also secured parliamentary support in January 2026 for a resolution urging the Generalitat to revive the full hospital plan, passed with two votes in favour and 12 abstentions. The Sant Cugat mayor, Josep Maria Vallès, has welcomed the new facility as a modern centre that will reduce the need for residents to travel to the Terrassa Mutua.
