## Record Revenue and Strong Financial Position

The Port of Barcelona closed 2025 with a turnover of €206 million, a 3% increase compared to 2024\. This marks the second consecutive year the port has exceeded €200 million in annual revenue. The income was primarily driven by concession fees, which brought in €96 million, and usage fees linked to port activity, which generated €97 million. Despite a 6% drop in operating profit to €47 million, attributed to the Port’s €10 million contribution toward the €30 million Barcelona International Terminal (BIT) coffee terminal project, financial officials stressed the port remains in a strong position. Without this one-off cost, operating profit would have reached €57 million, a 14% rise. Bank debt decreased by €18 million in 2025, leaving it at €88 million, or just 4% of the Port Authority’s own funds. With a business cash flow of €114 million and a cash balance of €365 million, the port is “in a sound financial position”, said Miriam Alaminos, Deputy General Director of Finance, Corporate Management and Strategy.

## Major Investment Cycle Underway

The port has launched a significant investment cycle, having put all major projects announced in 2025 out to tender, totalling €332.5 million. Five of the seven contracts have already been awarded, with the remaining two expected to be finalised in the coming months. This year, the Port of Barcelona plans to initiate nine new major projects valued at €338.7 million. These include:

- Port infrastructure upgrades: Phase 2 of the Catalunya wharf enclosures, refurbishment of the Ponent Nord wharf, and reinforcement of the North entry mouth seawall to adapt to climate conditions
- Road accessibility improvements: Construction of the northern junction for new southern accesses, road extension to the Adossat wharf via the Porta d'Europa bridge split, and enhanced access to the new Terminal G for cruise ships
- Intermodal transport developments: Track superstructure works in Nou Llobregat, doubling of Carrer 4 railway access, and restructuring of Contradic wharf rail terminals
- Port-city integration: Construction of the Port Center on the ground floor of the Portal de la Pau building

> “We laid the foundations to strengthen the Port as a strategic logistics node in the Mediterranean and to deploy projects in the coming years to expand capacities and modernise infrastructures, decarbonise activities and support the growth of companies,”

said José Alberto Carbonell, President of the Port of Barcelona.

## Traffic Highlights of 2025

Total freight traffic reached 69.5 million tonnes in 2025, nearly matching the 69.7 million tonnes handled in 2024\. While overall container traffic dipped by 4.2% to 3.7 million TEUs, high-value full import and export containers rose by 4% and 3% respectively, with imports hitting an all-time high. Liquid bulk traffic surged 21.7% to 16.6 million tonnes, driven by increased gasoline and LNG imports. In contrast, dry bulk traffic fell 15% to nearly 4.1 million tonnes, largely due to technical shutdowns affecting soybean arrivals and low cement traffic from foreign competition. Ro-ro traffic saw slight growth at 430,406 UTIs (+0.6%), while new car shipments rose 5.1% to 716,657 units. Electric vehicles now account for nearly 12% of new vehicle throughput, a 75.7% increase from the previous year. Passenger numbers climbed 7.3% to 5.8 million, including 1.8 million ferry passengers. Cruise traffic grew by 7.6%, with 2.3 million passengers embarking or disembarking in Barcelona, the highest base port share on record at 58%.
