Authorities are investigating whether foreign actors may be linked to recent violent protests in Barcelona, after an intelligence report cited "foreign interference" and "foreign funding" as unverified hypotheses, according to [Cronicaglobal](https://www.cronicaglobal.cat/vida/20261028/dintelligencia-analitza-possible-ingerencia-estrangera-saquejos-barcelona/1003742806997%5F0.html?ref=barna.news).

The strategic intelligence assessment, produced by a Catalan cybersecurity firm, states that while indicators exist, there is currently no traceable proof of resources, contacts or objectives linking the unrest to international actors.

## Coordinated Digital Campaign Suspected

Marga Herrero, chief executive of cybersecurity firm Golden Owl, told Cronicaglobal that digital coordination patterns suggest deliberate efforts to incite disorder. She said the mix of online agitation, physical damage and images of chaos aims to "generate a sense of destabilisation and insecurity".

## Focus on Intermediary Profiles

Investigators from the Mossos d'Esquadra, Spain's National Police and Civil Guard are focusing on identifying "intermediate nodes", anonymous profiles that connect organisers with on-the-ground participants. These individuals may create Telegram channels, form youth groups and spread false protest calls, such as those reported in Granollers and Girona.

Authorities aim to disrupt upcoming rallies, including a planned event on Saturday 31st October.

## Risk of Youth Recruitment

A separate police intelligence report warns of a "very high" risk of minors being recruited, particularly through school networks. Last Saturday’s unrest saw 130 arrests, 76 of them under 18\. Three minors were placed in closed detention, with others subject to supervised release and bans on attending gatherings.
