## Work Starts Monday on Urban Upgrade

Barcelona City Council will begin transformation works on Pere Llobet street in the El Coll neighbourhood of Gràcia district this Monday, 5 October 2026\. The project, which runs until March 2027, will affect the stretch between Portell street and Laguna de Lanao square. Residents and commuters should expect changes to traffic flow and parking over the next five months as the street is reconfigured to prioritise pedestrians.

## Wider Sidewalks, Better Infrastructure

The main goal of the intervention is to expand sidewalks and convert the street into a semi-pedestrianised platform with more space for foot traffic. To achieve this, the existing parking lane will be partially removed. In addition to pedestrian improvements, the project includes essential upgrades: the sewage network will be renewed, street lighting replaced with LED technology, and telephone and electrical cabling buried underground. New trees and street furniture will also be installed, with additional planting along the southern sidewalk between Portell and Jaume Cascalls streets. A limited parking strip will be retained beyond Jaume Cascalls to balance resident needs with urban greening.

> This action is part of Pla Endreça, a citywide programme by Barcelona City Council to renovate public spaces and improve liveability in neighbourhoods across the city.

The Pere Llobet upgrade is one of five urban transformation projects planned for the Gràcia district during the current municipal term. The area, located on a steep slope between Colina del Carmel and Crucecita del Coll, has long faced challenges with accessibility and narrow pavements.

### What This Means for Locals

Residents of El Coll can expect temporary disruptions during construction but will benefit from a safer, greener, and more accessible street upon completion. The wider sidewalks will ease movement for pedestrians, including older adults and those with mobility impairments. Drivers are advised to seek alternative routes or parking during the works, which are expected to conclude in March 2027.
