## New Home Moves Into Historic Ronda de Sant Antoni Site

New Home, a home goods chain sometimes referred to as the 'Chinese Ikea', is preparing to open a 2,000 square metre store in Barcelona’s Ronda de Sant Antoni. The store will occupy the former Electrodomésticos Miró premises at number 66, a protected historic building that has stood vacant since 2019\. The space will be spread over two floors and will sell furniture, housewares, and decorative items. This marks the chain’s fourth location in Barcelona and its largest to date in the city.

## Historic Building With 1855 Origins

The building, known as the Casa-fàbrica Rubert, dates back to 1855 and was originally designed by architect Josep Oriol Mestres for Rafael Pagès. In the early 20th century, it housed the umbrella shop and factory of Pius Rubert Laporta. Although production moved in 1924, the shop remained open. Later, the building became a well-known Miró electrical appliances store. Despite changes in use, its original architectural features, such as semicircular ground-floor arches and an iron-railed continuous balcony on the upper floor, have been preserved.

### What New Home Offers

- Furniture including tables, shelves, and drawer units
- Home textiles, lighting, bathroom accessories, and housewares
- Garden and terrace furniture in the new expanded section
- Prices from €39.99 for shelves, €50 for small tables, and €25 for curtains

The chain also offers home delivery, furniture assembly, and click-and-collect services at its Barcelona stores.

> The arrival of the chain will bring activity back to a space closed since 2019, whose commercial history began in the mid-19th century.

## Expansion of Locally Born Chain

Founded by Chinese-Catalan entrepreneur Jiang Yungkai, New Home opened its first store on Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes in 2013\. It has since expanded to Comte d’Urgell and a second Gran Via location, with a store also in Valencia. Although the Sant Antoni location is already listed on [newhome.cat](http://www.newhome.cat/?ref=barna.news), the official opening date has not yet been confirmed. Refurbishment work is currently underway.
