## Practical tools for a strict fat-restricted diet

People living with familial chylomicronemia syndrome, a rare genetic disorder causing extremely high triglyceride levels, now have access to a new set of practical resources to help manage their condition. The Lipids and Vascular Risk Group at Hospital Clínic Barcelona, in collaboration with Fundació Catalunya La Pedrera and Alícia Foundation, has launched a comprehensive guide to support patients on a diet restricted to less than 15–20 grams of fat per day. The initiative, presented on Thursday 22nd October 2026, includes a nutrition guide, sample menus, advice on reading food labels, and a recipe book with over 40 low-fat recipes. Video recipes and educational materials on the fat content of common foods are also available.

## Innovative 'Fat Meter' helps identify fat visually

A key feature of the toolkit is the 'grasímetre' (fat meter), a visual tool designed to help patients quickly identify the fat content of foods. This intuitive resource supports adherence to the strict dietary requirements necessary to reduce the risk of acute pancreatitis and other complications. The project combines clinical expertise from Hospital Clínic with Alícia Foundation’s experience in culinary medicine. It was developed with input from affected individuals and aims to improve quality of life by increasing confidence and autonomy in daily food choices.
