## Les Tres Torres Gains Inclusive Play Space

Barcelona has opened a new accessible children's play area in the Doctor Roig i Raventós Gardens in the Les Tres Torres neighbourhood of Sarrià – Sant Gervasi. The space, completed on Wednesday 30 September 2026, was developed to meet universal accessibility standards and ensure children with physical, sensory and intellectual disabilities can enjoy safe, inclusive recreation. The renovation, funded by the Barcelona City Council with an investment of nearly €490,000, removed architectural barriers and introduced a range of adapted play equipment. The centrepiece is the 'Sensory Caterpillar', a guided play structure incorporating multiple features designed for diverse abilities.

## Features Designed for All Abilities

The playground includes two swings, one with an adapted seat, a climbing wall, two sand manipulation tables, two slides, a spinner, a trampoline, a lounger and a cabin. Urban furniture has also been upgraded to support shared use and assist caregivers. The design follows the 'Recommendations for Accessible and Inclusive Play Areas', a 2019 document produced by the Network for Accessibility and Independent Living (XAVI) in coordination with the Municipal Institute for People with Disabilities and the Institute for Children and Adolescents of Barcelona.

## City-Wide Push for Inclusive Play

This project forms part of Barcelona’s Public Space Play Plan, which aims to ensure every neighbourhood has at least one fully accessible play area by 2030\. As of late 2025, the city had 906 children’s play areas, with 21 classified as fully accessible, a figure expected to rise to 55 by 2024 under ongoing improvements. According to the Barcelona City Council, 90% of residents will soon live within easy reach of an accessible play space. The initiative aligns with broader efforts such as the Pla Endreça, which has allocated over €11 million for green space improvements across the city.

> The aim is for greener spaces with more shade, attractive play elements and more space for free play, plus good quality comfortable spaces to spend time in.

Work to improve 24 additional play areas is currently being tendered, with construction set to begin in early 2026.
