This heightened operation follows a violent incident last Saturday 24th October, when around 600 young people, many of them minors, gathered in the city centre. The unrest led to 128 arrests, with 72 of those detained being under 18\. A total of 23 shops were looted and 33 fires were extinguished by emergency services, while 15 police officers were injured, four of them seriously. ## Expanded operation with extra units The initial deployment plan has been scaled up in recent hours. What began as a plan to double some guard shifts and add two extra vans has been expanded to include up to three additional rapid intervention vans. Officers from the Àrea Regional de Recursos Operatius (ARRO) and the Brigada Mòbil (Brimo) are being called through an extraordinary pool of overtime hours. "Hours have been offered to agents because the objective is to maximize coverage on Saturday night. Almost all public order forces will be activated," sources within the force confirmed. ## No special measures for municipal police The Guardia Urbana will maintain regular operations without any extraordinary reinforcements for 31st October. Municipal officers confirmed that no special instructions have been issued and no services outside the regular schedule have been called, leaving public order responsibilities to the Mossos. --- ## Minister warns of repeat violence Interior Minister Núria Parlon has publicly warned of a real risk of further violence in central Barcelona this weekend. Her alert follows criticism from police unions and the admission of errors by Director General of Police Ferran López, who acknowledged that the level of violence during the previous weekend's disturbances had not been accurately assessed. Police monitoring identified calls for unrest circulating on TikTok, later coordinated through WhatsApp and Telegram groups under the guise of an educational protest slogan, 'For the quality of high school', which authorities say was entirely false. > The behaviour was due to its level of virulence and the high participation of adolescents, Parlon told the Interior Commission of the Parlament on 29th October, describing the events as a "new phenomenon of youth violence" organised via digital platforms. ## Businesses preparing for unrest In central Barcelona, some businesses have taken precautionary measures, including acquiring baseball bats and other defensive tools. Staff plan to barricade premises and remain on guard after nightfall. Last Monday, Mossos officers visited businesses in Sants and Plaça d'Espanya to advise on self-protection measures, following warnings of a potential "massive gathering".
