Mossos d'Esquadra, Catalonia's regional police, are searching for the partner of a 34-year-old woman who died after an alleged stabbing at a home on Carrer d'Andrade in Barcelona's Sant Martí district.

Police received an alert about an assault at 19:47 and found the woman seriously injured inside the property. Emergency medical staff attended her but later confirmed her death, according to the Mossos.

The case is being investigated as a suspected gender-based killing. The Mossos' Criminal Investigation Division has taken charge of the inquiry, while officers search for the victim's partner, who police say left the scene after the attack.

According to reporting based on police information, the suspect travelled in a white Ford during his escape and later set it alight on Carrer de Palència, at its junction with Carrer d'Espronceda.

The vehicle forms part of the investigation into the route taken after the attack. Mossos are being supported in the search by the Guàrdia Urbana, Barcelona's municipal police, and other local police forces in the metropolitan area.

Two children, aged four and eight, were reportedly in the home when the alleged assault occurred. Barcelona City Council social emergency staff also attended to support people affected by the incident.
