## Residents press for progress on key projects

Residents of Mira-sol voiced frustration over persistent power outages, delayed construction, and inadequate maintenance during the neighbourhood council meeting held on Wednesday 28th October 2026\. The meeting, organised by the local council, brought together community members and municipal officials to address ongoing issues affecting daily life. One resident highlighted that power cuts, once brief, now last for hours and are occurring more frequently. They also reported unlit streets and called on the City Council to formally report these incidents to energy providers Endesa and Consum.

## Delays at Institut-Escola Catalunya

Work on the Institut-Escola Catalunya, which began late due to administrative delays by the contractor, is now expected to finish in November. The 505,000 euro renovation project, managed by the Sant Cugat Council, required eight school classes to be relocated to the Casal de Mira-sol. This relocation led to the cancellation of over half the scheduled activities and workshops at the centre. Despite the delay, the councilor for education, Carme Ardid (Junts), confirmed that construction of the new secondary school building remains on schedule, with completion expected in September 2027.

## Future of the aquatic complex in doubt

The future of the Mira-sol aquatic complex remained a central topic. Albert Salarich, president of the neighbourhood council, reported that the first phase, comprising two swimming pools, changing rooms, and reception, is nearing completion and ready for handover. The second phase, including a fitness room and three group activity rooms, is in the final drafting stage.

> The priority is for it to be a profitable model and investment.

A tender for the second phase will cover both construction and long-term operation, with works planned to allow the pool to open in the second half of 2027\. However, residents expressed scepticism, noting that a previous completion target of September 2026 was missed. One resident warned that the required investment of over 1.5 million euros may deter potential operators. Salarich stressed that the management model is defined by the tender process, not community input, and that the goal is a sustainable facility that does not burden residents financially.

## Traffic calming projects on hold

Residents also demanded action on traffic calming measures for Avinguda de Madrid, a project approved in the 2022–2023 participatory budgets with 50,000 euros allocated. The initiative remains on hold pending a mobility study, which the council says is necessary to assess wider impacts on the neighbourhood. The councilor for Participation, Francesc Duch (ERC), confirmed that his department has fulfilled its role and that the delay lies with the ongoing study. Residents argued that the street is unsafe, citing narrow width and speeding vehicles. Duch also confirmed that works to change the direction of Carrer de Pompeu Fabra, approved three years ago, are set to begin imminently.

## Maintenance and infrastructure updates

Criticism was also directed at the state of local maintenance. Residents cited the Riera de Can Cabassa, which overflowed during heavy rain on 29th September 2026, and reported unresolved issues with asbestos on Carrer de Guadalajara. One resident noted that many participatory budget projects amount to basic upkeep, such as tree planting. The council reviewed recent and upcoming works:

- Resurfacing of Carrer de Josep Trueta and Plaça de la Batuda: completed
- Sidewalk improvements on Avinguda de Can Cabassa and Camí de Can Gatxet: completed
- Sidewalks on Passeig de l'Orquídia: under construction
- Sidewalks on Carrer de Sabina Canyameres and Avinguda de Can Cabassa: upcoming

Tree stumps have been removed on Carrer de Pompeu Fabra, with replanting planned for the next season where feasible. The Diputació’s noise measurements from May 2026 on Carrer de Folch i Torres and Carrer de Guadalajara showed levels within legal limits, with improvements compared to 2013 readings.

### What this means for residents
